Sidewalk & Walkway Concrete Calculator
By Vinod Kondeti · Updated
A walkway is a long, thin slab, so small changes in width add up over the length. Enter the total length of the path. For a path with turns, add the straight sections together.
How do I measure for a sidewalk pour?
- Width is measured inside the forms.
- Curved paths: measure along the centre line for the length.
- Many DIY walkways are poured at around 4 in thick. Check your local requirements before you pour.
Sidewalk concrete questions
How much concrete for a 30 ft × 4 ft walk at 4 in?
30 × 4 × 0.333 = 40 ft³ = 1.48 yd³, about 67 bags of 80 lb mix before waste.
Should I order by the yard or buy bags?
For about 1.5 yd³ you are mixing roughly 70 bags of 80 lb, so compare that labour against a short-load ready-mix delivery.
Bag yields: 0.30 / 0.45 / 0.60 ft³ for 40 / 60 / 80 lb standard concrete mix (manufacturer data sheets). The concrete guide has the formulas and worked examples.
