About MyProjectCalcs

By Vinod Kondeti · Updated

MyProjectCalcs is a small collection of free calculators for home and garden projects: concrete, square footage, mulch and paint. I'm Vinod Kondeti, and I build and run the site.

Why this site exists

Buying materials for a project usually means doing some quick math: how many bags of concrete, how many yards of mulch, how many gallons of paint. The math isn't hard, but it is easy to get wrong when you mix feet and inches or guess at coverage. I wanted calculators that are fast, free, and honest about where their numbers come from.

How the calculators work

  • Formulas are shown on every page. You can check any result by hand, and each tool page includes worked examples.
  • Figures come from published sources. Bag yields, paint coverage and recommended depths come from manufacturer data sheets, university extension services and standards bodies. Each page links to the sources it uses.
  • Everything runs in your browser. The calculators don't need an account, and the numbers you type aren't sent to a server.
  • Results are estimates. Real projects vary: uneven ground, textured walls, waste and product differences all change how much you use. Check product labels, and for structural or code-regulated work, follow your plans and local building department.

What I am not

I'm not a contractor, engineer or licensed professional, and the site doesn't give professional advice. The calculators do arithmetic using published figures. They can't see your project.

Sources we rely on

  • Concrete bag yields, mixing and curing: QUIKRETE and SAKRETE product data sheets; the American Cement Association (formerly the Portland Cement Association).
  • Paint coverage: Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore.
  • Mulch depth and tree mulching: Scotts Miracle-Gro, University of Illinois Extension, University of Vermont Extension.
  • Units and conversions: NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).

Corrections

If you find a number that looks wrong, or a source that has changed, please tell me through the contact page. I'll check it against the source and update the page and its "Updated" date.
